Crucifix in the Mist

September 4, 2010:

AJ and I have walked under starlight early a few mornings since leaving Puebla de Sanabria.  The quiet peacefulness of the pre-dawn hours is still working its magic and San Lorenzo is still shedding the occasional tear.  This morning leaving Silleda, the beauty lay in cool ground blanketing mist that gave a ghostlike quality to wanderers in the landscape.  Some working men, hefting tools to begin a hard day’s work in fields emerged from dense fog.  Stone way marks with blue and yellow ceramic shells begin to guide our way as we near Santiago.  Near one this morning, we saw an especially beautiful stone crucifix.
Across the Roman Bridge under warm sunny skies this afternoon at Ponte Ulla, we elected to have a siesta dinner meal, not knowing what other opportunities might lay ahead of us.  We had some trouble identifying just which possibility of several was the restaurant serving at that hour.   Successful, we had wine and a fine home cooked meal in another drawing room like atmosphere.
We’ve reached Capilla de Santiaguiño (KM 984.5) this evening, which has a modern (and tonight busy) refugio with an outdoor tavern just down slope from it commanding a marvelous valley view.
